List And Compare The 3 Different Approaches - 1229 Words

Raelene Gomes 1. List and compare the 3 different approaches (NOT strategies) to routing. (15 pts) The three different approaches to routing are distance-vector routing, link-state routing, and path-vector routing. With distance-vector routing, each router exchanges information with other routers that are also connect to the same packet-switching network. The downside of this approach is that it requires each router to transmit a large amount of information. This is because each router has to send a distance vector to each of its neighbors, and that can take a lot of time. That is why they created the link-state routing approach. With this approach, each router is sent the link cost of all routers in the configuration, not just their neighbors. They are then each able to create their own topology and decide on the shortest path to each destination. Neither of this approaches works well for an exterior router protocol. That is why we have path-vector routing. With this approach, each router is supplied with which networks it can reach and which AS it needs to cross to get there. This allows a router more options to choose which path it wants to take. 2. How would you control congestion in a packet-switched network? NOTE: There are multiple approaches†¦ (10 pts) I like implicit congestion signaling as a means for controlling congestion. When congestion happens, there is a delay in transmission and packets may begin to be discarded. Content Based Approach A slightly different implementation is employed in content based approach, where the main idea, is to compare the contents of the site, rather than URL. Content based approach is also known as visual similarity based approach in which the contents like text, images and styles are compared with the contents of original site and the similarity is evaluated. This process is lengthier and consumes time because the entire content is compared, and then the decision is made.Read MorePsy 201 Research Methods And Statistics738 Words   |  3 Pagesconducted and analysed in accordance with two basic approaches: quantitative and qualitative.
